what we do
The short answer? Community-driven investigation & education.
Right now we're coordinating our first, sizable session of programs. We've been working with a bunch of local people who are looking to share their enthusiasm for investigation in some way. Some are running one or two day workshop, others are facilitating thirteen week seminars or ongoing meetups aimed at bringing together people who share their interest.
We work to help people bring everything together—to find a venue, design and put together a program, think about what would make it exciting and compelling for everyone involved, and take care of logistical details like advertising, documenting, or accepting payment.
The thread behind all our efforts is a desire to help to create real opportunities for deep engagement with science—whether through educational programs, personal research projects, or public seminars. We try to bring together people interested in exploring science in exciting ways with the resources (material and human) they need to get their ideas off the ground.
Our hope is to build a community of investigators in Somerville—a kind of community college that really lives up to its name. Not a school in a building or a college in a community, but a community of people who relate to each other as colleagues: excited to learn and work together to explore questions they care about. This means that anything we think will develop opportunities for this type of community falls under our umbrella for "our work."
