frequently asked questions

Here are some of the questions people send our way most often. If you still end up with a question, drop us a line

So I've read through your site, but I was wondering: how do you, you know, make money?
Well, we pooled our savings to get sprout started, and our hope is that through proceeds from programs, sponsorships and donations, we'll be able to sustain and grow sprout (And yes, that means that we're not taking a salary, for now.)

Can I come by and use something?
Yes! Well, probably! Our studio is open pretty much any time we're here and it won't get in the way of other events. There are some resources here—like our mill and lathe—that aren't available for off-the-street use If you are interested in making use of them, let us know and we'll figure out something that makes sense in terms of scheduling and safety That said, the space is open for people to swing by and co-work in or use for their own purposes.

You guys have an awesome space! Could I use it to host something?
Yes! Well, probably! We hope so! We're open to our space acting as a venue as long as it doesn't interfere with—and, preferably, if it supports and enriches—our programs and work. For more details about using sprout's studio as a venue, please get in touch and check out our draft venue policy.

I'd like to get involved! How do I?
Well, let us know (and be sure to mention what you love doing), and then head on over to our get involved page.

I'd like to do a story on you guys.
Awesome! Let us know and we'd be happy to arrange a time to chat. You can also check out our Flickr photostream.

Who are you guys? Do you work on this full time?
We're us! And we sure do!

I'm a part of a community organization, and I think we can do some neat stuff together!
Great! Drop us a line and tell us about yourself and your ideas.

Are you a 501(c)3 non-profit?
Yes! After a long, tedious slog, we are! If you're interested in what that means for sponsors and donors, take a look at, well, this guide for sponsors and donors (It's from the IRS; sorry! We're working on our own, human-readable form of this.)

Do you have this particular thing I'm looking for?
We're still working out our inventory system, but feel free to ask us or swing by a project night on Thursday nights (7:30–10:30PM) to see for yourself.
